We just got a new puppy, and wanted to get pet insurance. initially, we had agreed to a policy with RSPCA pet insurance, but after 1 day (and well within the settlement period), we decided to go elsewhere due to varying factors. I called RSPCA to cancel the following day. I was transferred to the cancellation department, which had me on the phone for over 1.5 hours convincing me to stay. Of note, I was asked at one point why I wanted to leave, and I said other policies offered up to $12,000 coverage p.a., whereas RSPCA only offered $11,000 p.a. Her reply was slightly condescending when she said "well you've never had a dog! and i can tell you that $11,000 is more than enough - well more than enough" I can understand that this statement is probably overall true, especially for a newborn puppy. And after 1.5 hours on the phone, I finally agreed to stay with RSPCA. 2 weeks later, I realised I was refunded money from RSPCA, and I was baffled. So I called them back to see if I was actually covered - only to find that RSPCA had already cancelled my policy. I did not receive an email of confirmation of cancellation. If I had not looked at my bank statement, I could've gone on for months or longer, not knowing that my dog was not covered. I'm now 40 minutes on the phone, being on hold because I want to speak to someone who can explain this situation. ... after 1.5 hours of convincing me how this large insurance company was professional and timely with their responses... I've only seen the opposite thus far.
