I am disappointed and appalled by the sales approach - I was signed up for a policy without my knowledge and consent. Someone from the sales team called me after I requested a quote online and I asked her for some detailed information about the policy. She advised that in order to email me the info she would have to take my credit card and details. I reiterated that I didn't want to take out the policy at this stage but only wanted info so I could assess what was in offer, and she assured me that my credit card would not be billed. So I (naively and stupidly in retrospect) gave her my credit card and details and the next thing I know I received an email with a 'welcome to the RSPCA' and an insurance policy! I called back that day to ask what was going in and was told that yes, I had a policy. After many phone calls over the next few days (including the fact that I was told by two operators that they were unable to transfer me to the cancellation team because of technical difficulties and that they would call back, which they never did), I finally spoke to someone who listened and finally cancelled my policy. I am extremely disappointed and would go so far as to say that surely it is questionable behaviour legally to sign someone up without their consent. I believe this type of action damages the brand of the RSPCA, not to mention the fact that the RSPCA is missing out on a policy because there was no way I would take out a policy after that experience, for if deceit of the customer occurs at an initial sales level it makes me question the rest of the customer experience. Very poor.

Wanted to cancel policy in cooling off period. First call took 5 minutes to talk to someone and then line died. Second call 11 minutes to talk to someone. Then transferred to the cancellation section. Total call time 20 minutes for second call. Cost at Medibank $20.02 per month. RSPCA $65.69 per month for same cover!
