RSPCA Pet Insurance now offers an easier and faster way to claim on eligible vet bills for your cat or dog. You can now access your benefit right away with GapOnly®, which means you only need to pay the ‘gap’ (the amount not covered by your policy) for eligible claims when visiting a participating vet.

This reduces your upfront payment on vet bills and also saves you from having to submit multiple forms when making a claim because your vet handles your claim for you. Here’s everything you need to know about this exciting new feature.

What is GapOnly®?

GapOnly® is the latest pet insurance claims service offered by participating vets and pet insurance providers.

As a pet parent, there’s nothing more stressful than when your furry friend is sick or injured. That’s why GapOnly® makes the process of paying for the treatment of your pet easier than ever. When your cat or dog receives medical care at a participating vet, your eligible pet insurance benefit will automatically be applied to your bill at the time of payment. All you need to do is pay the amount not covered by your policy (the gap), on eligible claims.

The biggest difference between GapOnly® and our regular claims process is that you no longer need to wait to be reimbursed after paying your bill. This was a common suggestion that we received from pet owners who wanted to benefit from their policy right away rather than wait for their claim to be processed.

How to make a claim with GapOnly®

Visit a participating vet and let them know you’d like to make a GapOnly® claim, either when booking the appointment or when you arrive at the clinic.

The vet submits the claim for you, then your claim will be assessed for approval in around 10 minutes. No need to wait days to receive your benefit.

Once your eligible claim is assessed, simply pay the remaining gap (the amount not covered by your policy). After that you’re good to go!

A GapOnly® claim can be processed from 8:00am to 8:00pm Monday to Friday, or between 8:00am and 5:00pm Saturdays AEST (excluding NSW public holidays). For claiming outside of these hours, just ask your vet to submit your claim as an eClaim. All GapOnly® participating vets offer the eClaims service.

  • To claim with GapOnly® when paying your next vet bill, simply let your participating GapOnly® vet know that you’d like to make a GapOnly® claim during your next visit. Your vet will submit your claim for you on the spot, and it will be assessed in around 10 minutes.

  • Yes. If you’d like to make sure your next vet visit is covered under your pet insurance policy ahead of time, you can request a GapOnly® pre-approval from your vet. This means you know exactly what to expect before treating your pet.

  • If your current vet doesn’t offer GapOnly®, you can ask them to sign up. All they need to do is reach out to hello@gaponly.com.au. Be sure to check the list of participating vets often at gaponly.com.au/find as new practices are joining every day.

  • Yes. If your vet is GapOnly® enabled, you can use this service for all eligible treatment costs, big and small.

  • To claim using eClaims is super quick and easy. You simply pay your vet in full for the visit you wish to claim for and let your vet know that you’d like to make an eClaim. As soon as your vet submits your claim you will receive an SMS to confirm your claim has been submitted, and you can track the status on your claim in your Pet Portal before being reimbursed your eligible benefit once approved.
